Sand Rivers Lodge

a rocky outcrop overlooking mighty Rufiji River, in the north of the
Selous Game Reserve. Eight secluded luxury cottages lie along the
riverbank, providing exclusive accommodation. Each cottage is
constructed from local materials - stone and timbers from fallen
trees

Day 1: Arrive in Dar es Salaam

Arrive in Dar es Salaam Airport and transfer to Kilimanjaro Kempinski
for overnight (BB).

Day 2: Fly-in to
Selous Game Reserve

Pickup
from
Kilimanjaro
Kempinski in the morning (07:30) and transfer to the airport for
ZanAir light plane to Selous Game Reserve, it is a 30 minute flight.
Pickup from the airstrip and transfer to
Sand
Rivers Lodge;
short game drive on arrival in an open car which guided by experienced
guide who is always keen to share his knowledge of the wild with you

Afternoon lunch and then rest on the lodge’s terraces; late afternoon
game drives along the
open river beds viewing herds of giraffe and other species gathering on
the dry rivers in the evening.

Day 3: Boat Safari the Rufiji River & Game Drive

Boat safari
on
the
Rufiji River,
which brings you close to hippopotamus and crocodiles, as well as a host
of bird life, notably bee-eaters who burrow their nests into the banks
and a number of different kingfishers. In the dry season particularly
there is a very good chance of seeing a range of other game at the
water's edge; especially elephant, giraffe and zebra. Late afternoon
game drive in an open car, dinner and overnight at the
Sand Rivers lodge

Day 4: Foot-walking and Game Drive
-
Walking Safari is thrilled, filled with discovery as you are able to
explore the network of sand rivers and pause along the way to enjoy the
numerous spectacular lakes. Excellent
birdlife along the way and opportunities to see Honey Buzzard, Pels
Fishing Owl, African Hobby Falcon, African Broadbill, Bat Hawk, and
Peregrine Falcon. Lunch in the bush or you meet the driver and drive
back to the lodge for lunch and relax under the shade of a tree.

Walking safaris are usually done in the vicinity of the camp and offers
a good chance of seeing giraffes, zebras, and elephants

Day 5: Game Drive & Return to Dar es Salaam
- Short
game drive early in the morning before lunch and rest, at 15:30 departs
for Dar
es Salaam; complementary dinner at
Kilimanjaro

late evening shuttle service to the airport for onward flight.
