Hiking to
the first

trails start
hiking after
morning
registration
at the park
gate.
Mwanihana
Trail,
with 38km is
currently
the longest
existing
hike in the
Udzungwa.
This is also
the only
trail that
exposes
visitors to
the montane
forest and
heathland
habitats of
the higher
slopes. You
will be
accompanied
by an armed
ranger
(there are
elephants
and buffalo
in the
forest!).

mountain
stream

Day 4:
Mwanihana
Peak 2150m

Early
morning
trekking
through the
changing
range of the
forest; from
Miombo
woodland,
lowland
forest,
sub-montane
forest,
highland
plateau to
pristine
montane
forest
before
reaching the
bare rock
and grass of
the summit
natural
glades; the
view of the
Kilombero
Valley is
marvelous.
Descend to
Njia Panda
Campsite for
dinner and
overnight
camping.
Please Note:
Mwanihana
Peak is the
second
highest peak
in the
Udzungwa
Mountains
and suitable
for the keen
hikers only.

Day 5:
Descend to
the Park
head quarter
– Ifakara
Town (Kilombero
Valley)
-
Early
morning
start
descend to
the park
gate and
walk to the
lodge for
hot
breakfast
and shower,
and then
start
driving back
to Ifakara
Town within
the
Kilombero
Valley for
camping,
visit local
initiated
projects and
local market
before
dinner and
overnight.

Day 6:
Kilombero
Valley - River
Canoeing/Bird
watching
-
Morning
after
breakfast
drive to the
river for
dug out
canoeing
with bird
watching
along the
Kilombero
River, (with
picnic lunch
on the river
bank); it
involves
walking
excursions
and village
visit;
dinner and
overnight at
a setup
campsite on
the river
bank.

Day 7:
Ifakara –
Dar es
Salaam
-
Breakfast
and then
ride back to
Ifakara,
meet the
drive/guide,
give the
farewell to
the
villagers
and start
driving back
to
Dar es
Salaam
with enroute
game viewing
in Mikumi
National
Park
