Primates
Udzungwa is described as a “Primate National Park” since it is
the only national park in Tanzania that harbors eleven species
of primates.

The Park is a magnet for hikers as is
quite typical wilderness since the
access of most areas is by foot. Hiking
safaris, bird watching safaris and
camping are the major activity in the
park, an excellent network of forest
trails go through beautiful sceneries,
trails are maintained regularly to allow
access for visitors in different parts
of the park.

Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Udzungwa

Transfer from Dar es Salaam to Udzungwa National
Park by Safari converted vehicle with professional
driver/guide (about 6 hours). Udzungwa Twiga Lodge for dinner and overnight; evening short
walking to the nearby village (Mang’ula)

Day 2: Hiking to the first Campsite
Mwanihana Trail, with 38km up and down.

Using Mwanihana - Sonjo trails start hiking
after morning registration at the park
headquarter. The trail that exposes visitors to the
montane forest and heathland habitats of the
higher slopes. You will be accompanied by an
armed ranger (there are elephants and buffalo in
the forest!). The campsite is next to a fresh
mountain stream

Day 3: Mwanihana Peak 2150m
-
Early morning trekking through the changing
range of the forest; from Miombo woodland,
low-land forest, sub-montane forest, highland
plateau to pristine montane forest before
reaching the bare rock and grass of the summit
natural glades. The view of the Kilombero Valley
is marvelous. Descend to Campsite for dinner and
overnight.

Please Note: Mwanihana Peak
is the second highest peak in the Udzungwa
Mountains and suitable for the keen hikers only.

Day 4: Descend to the Park headquarter

Early morning start descend to the park gate
meet the driver and drive to the lodge for hot shower
and lunch,
and then start driving back to Dar es Salaam
with enroute game viewing in
Mikumi National Park
