Old Fort Known as Ngome Kongwe in Swahili

The fort  built between 1698 and 1701 by Busaid Arab Group after they defeated Portuguese. They  constructed to defend themselves from Portuguese and  their  main rival Sultan Mazrui of Mombassa. In  later years the fort was used as a prison for local people and slaves.  In  1900 the forts was converted  to a deport for the railway line that was then operating  between Zanzibar Town and the place called  Bububu.  Later on the fort was once  re-built as ladies tennis court.
