Geography: Ngorongoro is
the largest unbroken caldera in the world which is unflooded. The
crater is about 3188 meters above sea level, and about
610 meters deep, 20 kilometers in diameters, covering an area of
325 square kilometers (which accounts for 10th of the
Ngorongoro Conservation Area

densest and permanent concentration of wildlife on earth
The
steep slopes are dominated by scrubs and remains of dense montane
forests, open grassy plain, swamps and acacia trees occupy the
plain of the crater especially around water lakes. The steep
mountain slopes of the crater have been providing protection and
natural settings for wildlife, such as elephants, while the crater
floor has been home for more than 20,000 large mammals such as
wildebeest, zebra, hyenas, cheaters, rhinos elephants, buffalos and
lions. which are supported by the availability of year round water
patches and alkaline in the the lake Magadi. The Lake
is home for Greater and Lesser Flamingos, accompanied by
seasonal migrant birds, normally arrive here during the wet months.
Lerai Forest is famous for the giant tusker bull elephants and
resident leopards; The southern and northern parts of the crater
there 2 large seasonal swamps, which are excellent for hippo and
many species of water birds. Thousands of buffalo roam on the
eastern side of the crater where the long glass are dominating.

Sources of Water
There is a soda lake called
Makat, filled by Munge River from Olmoti Crater; attracts many water
birds, including flamingoes. around the lake marshes predators hide
to ambush large animals that come to drink water. Swamps support
most of large animals including hippo, buffaloes and elephants
